The Port Melbourne Chargers Women’s Football Club was created with a clear purpose: to build a place where women can play, develop, lead and belong.

Established in 2025 and based at JL Murphy Reserve, we are a women’s football club with ambitions that extend well beyond the scoreboard.
​
We want to be a premier destination for women’s football — recognised for the quality of our football program, the experience we create for our players, our commitment to developing women, and the strength of the community around us.

We are building a legacy that will inspire change, elevate women in sport and make a lasting impact.

Supporting women at different stages of their football journey — from new players discovering the game to experienced footballers seeking high-quality competition and development.

From foundation to momentum
Our first two seasons have shown what is possible when people come together around a shared purpose.
​
In our inaugural season in 2025, more than 70 women pulled on a Chargers jumper as we fielded Senior and Reserves teams in the VAFA.
​
Both teams reached finals in our first year.
In 2026, the club continued to build on those foundations, strengthening our football program, expanding our player and leadership development initiatives and continuing to grow our community — with our Senior team reaching the Premier B Grand Final in just our second season.
​
But our success isn't measured only by wins and ladder positions.
It is also measured by whether women want to stay involved, whether players are developing, whether people feel they belong, whether new leaders are emerging and whether we are creating opportunities that weren't there before.

That is the club we are building.

Club Structure
The Port Melbourne Chargers Football Club operates as a stand-alone women’s football club, purpose-built to serve female players.
​
The club is governed by an Executive Committee, responsible for strategy, governance, financial sustainability, and long-term planning. Key operational portfolios include Football Operations, Coaching, Player Development, Community Engagement, and Commercial Partnerships.
​
This structure enables the club to remain agile, player-focused, and aligned with the long-term growth of women’s football in Port Melbourne.

The Port Chargers are based at JL Murphy Reserve, one of Port Melbourne’s key sporting precincts.
